• How to Resolve Chronic Leg Swelling

    on Feb 13th, 2018

If you have legs that are chronically swollen, you may be experiencing water retention. This may be happening because of heart issues including high blood pressure, congestive heart failure.  It also commonly occurs with the presence of varicose veins. When varicose veins are present, the blood is not efficiently taken back to the heart.  As a result, the red blood cells will leak out and cause redness/itching. In addition, the water that normally flows with the blood will leak out into the skin and soft tissues. This will cause swelling and sometimes active leaking of water from the skin.

Seeing your family doctor or cardiologist is important to address any underlying concerns. After these issues are addressed, controlling the swelling through compression therapy will help to resolve symptoms. This may be a temporary treatment or may be necessary long-term. We can help you quickly resolve the swelling/leaking with soothing wraps. Additional long-term management may require additional intervention for varicose veins.  We can help coordinate this care if needed.
