• The Best High Heels

It sounds like an oxymoron. Are there really high heeled shoes that are good?

In fact, the comfort of a given shoe can be very much dependent upon foot type.

For example, a person with a high arch may find that a higher heeled shoe feels more natural to their foot shape. However, a person with a rigid flat foot will find that same style shoe unbearable. A flexible flat foot will feel some relief in a higher heeled shoe as it take the stress off the inside of the foot and bunion.

In general, the best high heels have the following characteristics:

- Room for the toes as an open toe shoe or sandal

- A block or wedge heel as it provides better balance
- Cushioned foot bed
- Platforms are a good cheat to get height
- Overall no higher than 3 1/2 inches high as higher is stressful to the ankle

Stay within these guidelines and your feet will thank you!
